CBS News History
CBS News serves as the news division for the American television and radio service CBS. Its television programs encompass the CBS Evening News, CBS Mornings, news magazine shows like CBS News Sunday Morning, 60 Minutes, and 48 Hours, along with the Sunday morning political affairs program Face the Nation. CBS News Radio produces hourly newscasts for numerous radio stations and manages CBS News podcasts, including The Takeout Podcast. The division also operates a 24-hour digital news network.
Susan Zirinsky held the position of president and senior executive producer of CBS News until April 2021, having assumed the role on March 1, 2019. Zirinsky, the first female president of the network’s news division, was chosen to replace David Rhodes on January 6, 2019, amidst declining ratings and the aftermath of an investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against CBS News figures, including Rhodes.
On April 15, 2021, CBS Television Stations and CBS News announced a merger, forming a new entity named CBS News and Stations. Neeraj Khemlani and Wendy McMahon were appointed as presidents and co-heads, with the transition completed on May 3, 2021.
Following Khemlani’s announcement of stepping down on August 14, 2023, Wendy McMahon assumed the role of sole President and CEO on August 15, 2023. Additionally, Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews, who oversaw the Washington D.C. bureau, was appointed as the president of CBS News.

CBS News Radio
CBS News Radio is the division responsible for creating newscasts and features for radio stations within CBS. This radio network is the oldest unit of CBS, with its origins dating back to the company’s establishment in 1927. The development of the news division took shape over the following decade. The roster of CBS News correspondents includes individuals reporting for CBS News Radio.
Notably, CBS News Radio produces the longest-running daily news show on radio or television, the CBS World News Roundup, which first aired in 1938 and marked its 80th anniversary in 2018. The World News Roundup is broadcast twice each weekday: a morning edition is anchored by Steve Kathan and produced by Paul Farry, while a “late edition” is anchored by Dave Barrett and produced by James Hutton.
The evening Roundup, previously known as The World Tonight, has been aired in its current format since 1956 and has been anchored by Blair Clark, Douglas Edwards, Dallas Townsend, and Christopher Glenn (Glenn also anchored the morning Roundup until his passing in 2006).
The CBS Radio Network delivers newscasts at the top of the hour, regular updates at:31 minutes past the hour, the popular Newsfeeds for affiliates (including WCBS and KYW) at 35 minutes past the hour, and breaking news updates as needed, often at 20 and:50 minutes past the hour. Distribution is handled by Skyview Networks.
CBS Newspath
CBS Newspath serves as CBS News’ satellite news-gathering service, comparable to CNN Newsource. This service delivers national hard news, sports highlights, regional spot news, features, and live coverage of significant breaking news events to affiliate stations for use in their local news broadcasts.
CBS Newspath boasts a team of domestic and global correspondents, along with freelance reporters, exclusively dedicated to reporting for affiliate stations. It offers a variety of national or international stories featuring daily reports from on-site reporters.
The service also heavily relies on local affiliates for content sharing, with stations often contributing locally obtained footage that may be of national interest. CBS Newspath took over the role of a similar service, CBS News NewsNet.
The Network News Service (NNS) represents a groundbreaking news organization created by ABC NewsOne, CBS Newspath, and Fox NewsEdge.
CBS News Streaming Network
The CBS News Streaming Network initially launched as CBSN on November 4, 2014, is a 24-hour streaming news channel accessible through the CBS News website. During its CBSN phase, the channel provided live news coverage from 9 a.m. to midnight on weekdays.
Operating exclusively online and on smart devices like smart TVs, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire, and others, it represents a groundbreaking move for a U.S. 24-hour news channel to forgo cable. The channel, based at CBS’s headquarters in New York City, offers direct access to all CBS News resources on digital platforms, featuring 15 hours of live, anchored coverage each week.
