NBC News

NBC News is the news arm of the American television network NBC and operates within NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, a division of Comcast’s wholly-owned subsidiary, NBCUniversal. The president of NBC News, Noah Oppenheim, oversees the various operations of the news division, which also includes MSNBC, CNBC, CNBC World, Noticias Telemundo (Spanish language news), and Sky News (based in the United Kingdom).

On February 21, 1940, NBC News made history by broadcasting the first regularly scheduled news program on American broadcast television. The news group’s productions originate from 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the headquarters of NBCUniversal in New York City.

Among its notable programs, NBC News is responsible for the highest-rated newscast in the United States, NBC Nightly News, the pioneering morning television show Today, and Meet the Press, the longest-running television series in American history featuring interviews with newsmakers every Sunday morning. Additionally, NBC News provides access to 70 years of rare historical footage from the NBCUniversal Archives through online platforms.

NBC News Units

  • NBCUniversal Archives
  • NBC News Studios, a unit dedicated to documentary production, was established on January 23, 2020. MSNBC Films is another component under the NBCUniversal Archives.
  • NBC News Channel functions as a news video and report feed service, resembling a wire service. It delivers pre-produced international, national, and regional stories, some featuring on-site reporters tailored for NBC network affiliates. Situated in Charlotte, North Carolina, it has bureaus in New York City at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, Washington, D.C. on North Capital Street NW, Chicago at the NBC Tower, and in Los Angeles at the Brokaw News Center on the Universal Studios Hollywood Lot. Additionally, it has satellite bureaus at WFLA-TV in Tampa, Florida, and at KUSA-TV in Denver, Colorado. The Charlotte headquarters are linked to the studios of the local NBC affiliate, WCNC-TV. NBC News Channel also served as the production hub for NBC Nightside and “Canal de Noticias, NBC.”
  • The NBC News Digital Group includes NBC News Now, a free streaming service launched on May 29, 2019, under the leadership of Janelle Rodriguez, Senior Vice President of Editorial for NBC News and MSNBC. Initially, the service operated without an anchor until the hiring of Alison Morris, formerly of Fox 5 in New York, starting on July 1, 2019. Originally known as NBC News Signal when announced in October 2018, Simone Boyce was initially tapped as the evening (7 PM) host, and two MSNBC hosts played acting roles. NBC News Now provides rolling news coverage on weekdays from 5 am ET until early evening, with NBC news magazines like Dateline NBC repeats and Meet the Press airing overnight and on weekends. The service is accessible through live streaming on YouTube internationally, the Peacock streaming service in the US and Canada, and on Sky TV and Virgin Media in the UK. During major breaking news events, NBC News Now may use a Sky News simulcast to maintain coverage on weekends.
