Suzanne Marie Somers was an American actress, author, singer, businesswoman, and health advocate, who portrayed the characters of Chrissy Snow on Three’s Company (1977-1981) and Carol Foster Lambert on Step by Step (1991-1998) on television.
Later in her career, she authored numerous books, including a pair of autobiographies, four diet-focused publications, and a volume of poetry. Her work “Ageless: The Naked Truth About Bioidentical Hormones” (2006), which discussed bioidentical hormone replacement therapy and the Wiley protocol, garnered significant criticism. Her book “Knockout” (2009), which promoted alternative cancer treatments, also faced disapproval from the American Cancer Society.
Born as Suzanne Marie Mahoney in San Bruno, California, on October 16, 1946, she was the third child in a blue-collar Irish-American Catholic family of four. Her mother, Marion Elizabeth (née Turner), worked as a medical secretary, while her father, Francis Mahoney, was a laborer and gardener, who struggled with alcoholism and abusive behavior.
During her early education, she attended Mercy High School in Burlingame, California, where her school performance suffered due to dyslexia and the turmoil caused by her father’s late-night outbursts, causing her to frequently doze off in class.
Despite these challenges, she participated in the lead role of H.M.S. Pinafore during her time at the school. Her expulsion at the age of 14 stemmed from writing sexually suggestive notes to a boy, although these notes were never actually sent.
In 1964, Suzanne graduated from Capuchino High School in San Bruno, California, earning the “Best Doll Award” for her role in the senior musical, “Guys and Dolls.” She also played a part in organizing her class’s senior ball.

A private burial for Somers will take place this week in Palm Springs, with a memorial service scheduled for the following month, according to a source familiar with the situation.
Before her passing, her family had been making plans to celebrate her birthday, even discussing the type of cake and food to present to her. However, the unexpected loss of Somers has left everyone in shock as they grapple with this heartbreaking reality.
In July, Somers revealed on Instagram that her breast cancer had returned. She stated to “Entertainment Tonight” that facing the news of the cancer’s recurrence was a difficult moment for her, like any cancer patient.
She acknowledged the initial unease and then geared up for another battle, as she had done in the past. Although she had previously relied on alternative medicines to combat her cancer, this time she was under the care of a conventional doctor and receiving treatment.
